Rally Fans Were In Kocaeli |30-09-2002
Kocaeli Rally, sixth leg of Turkey Rally Championship organised by KOSDER, Kocaeli Automobile Sports Club on 29 September 2002 Sunday, was realised by partcipation of 50 pilots. The rally giving points to Turkey Rally Championship on 0.8 coefficient, consisted of three different laps and total of 281 kms, was completed after running three laps (Işıktepe, Sepetçiler and İlimtepe)three times each. In Kocaeli Rally, rally center and service space sevices were given by Intertex Fair Center and covered service space application was made for first time in Turkey.
Rally fans who gave up on their early Sunday morning sleep, watched a high-tension race. Start was given at 08:00 hours from Grand Marmara Hotel and ended at the same place at 10:53. Winner prizes for the first three teams were given at the Grand Marmara Hotel at 20:30 hours.
During the rally full of surprises, Opel Motorsports pilot Hamdi Ünal and his co-pilot Bahadır Gücenmez in Opel Astra Kit Car, lost some time due to a flat tyre but succeeded achieving the third place. This gave great morale to OMS pilot Hamdi Ünal before the track races to be run in Izmir.
