Where to stand to watch a rally ? | 15-06-2001
Surely, pilots and co-pilots are the ones to be most careful in a rally.
They are totally concentrated to finish the race without a catastrophe A spectator
has to be very careful as well but not as careful as drivers. Otherwise, he/she will have to quit the race and enter the service area for a small attendance-hospital, clinic, etc.! As the man who is naturally beige all over(see the photo) after soaking in the dust, let me tell you that you must choose the right spot to watch the rally. Otherwise, you'll have to run to the next lap or service (if you've come in somebody else's car). Even if you've come in your own car, I'll advise you to run and get disinfected and then get into your car. Some of the clues are as follows if a rally spectator does not wish to be in above situations:
> Be sure to enter the lap before the last forwarding car gets in. Thus, it will be easier for you to make your pick.
> Be very aware of the general characteristics of the lap, bends or bend slopes and meteorological conditions from your standing spot.
> Your spotting dust, pebbles or stones on the road is definitely to your benefit, health-wise.
> If you have to take photos and have to be in dusty area, you are sure to become the same colour as the ground. Apart from the ground colour, if you don't want another colour on you, be sure to be out of reach of stones thrown by the racing cars.
> You've seen what is to be seen and you're going back. On return, calculate well the distance between two cars and characteristics of the return route. It is very unhealthy to kiss the license plate of a rally car!
And you must consider the rally pilots who don't want their plates to be kissed.
The pilot seeing someone trying to kiss his license plate, will maneuver and most probably will be out. Don't damage his career for a kiss.
If you comply with above, it will be most non-harmful to watch a rally both to you and to career of the pilots. It will definitely be more enjoyable than getting beige all over or kissing a license plate!
Definitely try them.
