First race was run on Körfez track | 24-06-2001
Turkey Track Championship started on 24 June at Izmit Körfez Track with the first race. Opel Motor Sport (OMS) aiming for the marks champ. this season, participated with three cars: Group A and general class. championship big candidate Hakan Dinç in Opel Astra Kitcar, successful pilot of F3 cup Hamdi Ünal in Opel Corsa Kitcar and Hakan Bahar from OPC (Opel Performance Center) in group N Astra.Group N Astra has been developed by Opel Motor Sport Rüsselsheim with 160 HPmotor, near-ratio gearbox and lock-differential. OMS also supported Erdem Çenesiz and Teymur driving Vectras. OMS was also prominent in Group N+ with Merih Erkal.
In the seeding tours on 23 June, Hakan Dinç was the fastest by 51.358 as expected and he obtained pole position for start off, whereas Hamdi Ünal was the winner of F3 and fifth in general class. Hakan Bahar couldn't participated in the seedings since Ope_ Astra was not ready. Erdem Çenesiz was tenth and Merih Erkal was thirteenth
Some comments before the race:
Erdem Çenesiz:
We'll start of tenth in Opel Vectra. Merih and I wish to be on the podium in group N+
Hamdi Ünal:
In yesterday seedings, I was fifth in general class. and the first in group F3. Will drive cautiously for we have Green Bursa Rally ahead of us.
Merih Erkal:
Seedings were not satisfactory for me. I wasn't happy wityh the gearbox so we'll go with a new one. My aim is the sixth or seventh place in general class. and third place in my group
